👧 Cyber Safety Tips For Children

In today's digital world, children spend a great deal of time online — for studying, playing games, watching videos, and using social media. However, the internet also carries many dangers that can put children at serious risk. Akhil Bhartiya Cyber Suraksha Sangathan presents the following essential cyber safety tips that every child and their parents must be aware of.

⚠️ Remember: The internet is a vast and open space. Just as you would not go out alone in an unfamiliar area, you must always be very careful while interacting with strangers online.
🔐 1. Never Share Personal Information Online
  • 🚫Never share your full name, home address, school name, phone number, or date of birth with anyone you meet online.
  • 🚫Avoid revealing your location or home address in online games or chat applications.
  • If any website asks for personal information, always ask your parents or teacher first before providing it.
🔑 2. Create Strong Passwords and Keep Them Safe
  • Always use a strong password — combine letters, numbers, and special characters (e.g., #, @, !) to make it harder to guess.
  • 🚫Never share your password with friends or anyone else, no matter how close they are to you.
  • Use different passwords for different online accounts.
  • Always log out after using your account on a public computer or someone else's device.
👥 3. Beware of Online Strangers
  • ⚠️Not everyone on the internet is who they claim to be. An online friend is not the same as a real-life friend.
  • 🚫Never agree to meet an online stranger in person without telling your parents — it could be very dangerous.
  • 🚫If anyone online offers you gifts, money, or special favours, inform your parents immediately — it is likely a trap.
  • Only chat or interact online with people you know and trust in real life.
💬 4. Recognise Cyberbullying and Report It
  • ⚠️Cyberbullying occurs when someone taunts, embarrasses, threatens, or spreads false information about you online.
  • If you are being bullied online, immediately tell your parents or a trusted teacher — do not stay silent.
  • 🚫Do not argue or fight back with the bully online — block them and take a screenshot as evidence.
  • Cyberbullying is a serious cyber crime and a police complaint can be filed against the offender.
📱 5. Use Only Safe Websites and Apps
  • Only visit trusted and verified websites. Make sure the website URL begins with https://.
  • 🚫Never click on unknown or suspicious links received through WhatsApp, email, or social media.
  • 🚫Do not download any app without your parents' permission.
  • Always download apps only from Google Play Store or Apple App Store — never from unknown sources.
📸 6. Protect Your Photos and Videos
  • 🚫Never share your personal photos or videos with any online stranger under any circumstances.
  • 🚫Avoid posting photos on social media that reveal your location, school, or home.
  • Always keep your social media profiles set to Private — not Public.
  • ⚠️If someone shares your photo or video online without your permission, this is a cyber crime — report it to your parents immediately.
🎮 7. Stay Safe While Playing Online Games
  • 🚫Do not make any real money transactions in online games without your parents' knowledge and approval.
  • 🚫Never share your personal details in the game chat with other players.
  • ⚠️If any player threatens you or uses inappropriate language, exit the game immediately and inform your parents.
  • Set a daily screen time limit for gaming — excessive gaming harms both your health and academic performance.
🛡️ 8. Always Talk to a Trusted Adult
  • If you see anything online that makes you feel uncomfortable, scared, or confused, always tell your parents or a trusted adult — never be ashamed to speak up.
  • Staying silent about any online threat or problem is the wrong approach — speaking out is always the right thing to do.
  • In case of any cyber crime, call our Helpline: 9311159707 or file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.
